Is Shorncliffe Beach good for families?
Yes. Lower Moora Park features a large adventure playground with timber forts, animal carvings and sea creature sculptures, plus rock pools, calm water for paddling, shaded grass, picnic shelters and BBQs.

You’ll find toilets (including accessible), outdoor showers, picnic shelters, BBQs, shaded seating under cotton trees, and the historic Shorncliffe Pier right next door.
Is there parking at Shorncliffe Beach?
Yes. There is parking both at the lower park level and up on the higher streets. The lower carpark fills quickly on weekends, so arrive early or park up top and walk down.
Can you swim at Shorncliffe Beach?
The water is usually calm and suitable for paddling and shallow swimming, especially for children. Rock pools add extra interest at low tide. Always check conditions on the day.
Are dogs allowed at Shorncliffe Beach?
The Designated Area: Your dog can run and swim off-leash along the foreshore stretching from Eagle Terrace (near Zeehan Street) all the way north into Sandgate (ending at Second Avenue).
Low Tide Tip: This area becomes a massive, flat playground of wet sand and tidal mudflats during low tide, which is the absolute best time for dogs to run.
Shorncliffe Pier & Lower Moora Park: Dogs are strictly banned from walking on the historic Shorncliffe Pier. They are also not allowed on the beach sand directly next to the pier, or in the lower playground and picnic areas of Moora Park.
Upper Cliffs & Walkways: Dogs must be kept on a leash if you are walking along the cliff-top pathways of Upper Moora Park, the paved Lover’s Walk coastal track, or any surrounding streets and grassy reserves.
